Beidou-Enabled Weather Stations: Continuous Meteorological Monitoring in Areas Without Signal Coverage

By integrating BeiDou-3 regional short-message communication with meteorological monitoring technology, these Beidou-enabled weather stations can reliably collect eight types of meteorological parameters in areas lacking public network coverage. The equipment operates autonomously around the clock, filling the gap in meteorological data collection for remote regions and supporting weather forecasting, disaster early warning, and environmental monitoring efforts.

Developed in-house, these automated weather monitoring stations combine BeiDou-3 regional short-message communication with environmental monitoring technology. They operate autonomously and transmit monitoring data in real time, enabling 24-hour continuous observation. This effectively addresses the industry-wide challenge of conducting meteorological monitoring in areas with no signal or weak signal. Currently deployed across various locations in China, these stations provide stable data support for weather forecasting, disaster alerts, and environmental management.

Unlike traditional ultrasonic weather stations, these Beidou-enabled units do not rely on high-precision timers, thereby avoiding measurement deviations caused by sensor startup delays, demodulation circuit latency, or temperature fluctuations. The system features an integrated eight-parameter sensor capable of simultaneously measuring ultrasonic wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, optical precipitation, total solar radiation, and negative oxygen ions; all collected data can be output via a unified digital communication interface. The sensor utilizes a design with concealed ultrasonic transducers beneath a top cover, which minimizes interference from accumulated rain or snow and airflow obstruction. It calculates wind speed and direction by emitting continuous frequency-modulated ultrasonic signals and measuring their relative phase shifts.

Each station comes with a two-meter carbon steel mounting mast. The sensor can be attached directly to the top of the mast without the need for additional flanges, simplifying on-site installation. The sensor housing is constructed from imported ASA material, which offers resistance to salt-spray corrosion and meets an IP65 (or higher) ingress protection rating. This ensures the equipment can operate reliably over the long term in complex outdoor environments—such as high-altitude plateaus, deserts, and coastal regions—while reducing the need for frequent maintenance and ensuring the continuity and stability of meteorological observation tasks.
