Lightning Warning System is an atmospheric electric field detection device developed using MEMS technology based on the principle of charge induction; it contains no wear-prone mechanical components, such as motors. The device features a measurement range of -100 kV/m to +100 kV/m and a detection radius of 15 kilometers. It employs an optimized algorithm—combining electric field differentiation with dynamic thresholding—to mitigate environmental interference, thereby addressing the need for short-term lightning warnings in sectors such as aerospace and defense, oil and petrochemicals, power grids, and scenic areas.


In terms of measurement performance, Lightning Warning System offers an electric field measurement range spanning from -100 kV/m to +100 kV/m, with a resolution of 0.1 V/m and a detection radius extending up to 15 kilometers. The system utilizes an optimized warning algorithm that integrates electric field differentiation with dynamic thresholds. Compared to conventional fixed-threshold methods, this approach effectively mitigates false alarms caused by environmental factors—such as rain, strong winds, snow, and blowing dust—thereby significantly enhancing warning accuracy. Certain models of the MEMS sensor are capable of detecting electric fields as low as 10 V/m, with a measurement uncertainty of just 0.67%; these units can issue warning signals between 5 and 30 minutes prior to a lightning strike.


Lightning Warning System typically comprises a lightning warning probe, a data processing host, a solar power supply system, a surge protection system, a grounding system, sensors for temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, and a three-tier audible-visual alarm unit. The device supports the RS485-Modbus-RTU communication protocol and transmits data at 60-second intervals. It is capable of uploading monitoring data to a cloud server, allowing users to access real-time electric field data and historical records simply by logging into the cloud platform via a web browser. The system features a three-tier linked warning mechanism: different warning levels trigger corresponding audible and visual alarms, and warning notifications can be automatically dispatched to designated users via SMS or email.


In terms of application fields, Lightning Warning System is primarily designed for environments with stringent requirements for lightning protection—including aerospace and defense facilities, meteorological stations, oil and petrochemical plants, power grid infrastructure, scenic areas, mining sites, oil depots, and military installations. During installation, ensure that the probe is mounted in an unobstructed outdoor area, avoiding proximity to high-voltage power lines or generator exhaust vents. Furthermore, proper grounding must be ensured during the operation of the device.
